Definition of Vehicle Impoundment

Vehicle impoundment is similar to vehicle forfeiture and may be required by the state if a driver has multiple convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) or other traffic violations. Overnight vehicle impoundment is most common in states to alleviate the chance a driver may drive after they are arrested for DUI.
