A jury is a group of United States citizens who are gathered to hear and evaluate testimony and evidence for legal disputes or criminal trials. In a criminal trial the jury is responsible for hearing the evidence and making a determination of whether or not the defendant is guilty or not guilty. In a civil trial the jury will hear evidence and will either find for the plaintiff or the defendant. Jury comes from the French jurer, which means "to swear an oath".
