Definition of Criminal Law

Criminal law includes all of the statutes and laws written by the United States Congress. It includes all actions which are considered illegal and which cause harm to the public. Criminal law also outlines how suspects are charged, tried and sentenced and how the courts will prosecute the crimes. Criminal law is enforced by the state or federal government. Car accident cases are initiated by the state prosecutor.
