Definition of Adversary System

The United States uses the adversary trial system to allow each opposing party in a lawsuit (defendant and plaintiff) to present their cases before a court. The plaintiff is presenting evidence against the defendant to prove they are either criminally or civilly responsible for a crime or injury and the defendant is attempting to prove their innocence against the charges.
